Serious gaming framework for innovative teaching
Duration: 01.04.2026 to 31.03.2028

Traditional teaching formats are reaching their limits in light of current challenges such as the digital transformation. There is a great demand for new teaching formats from the perspective of students and teachers. Compared to traditional teaching formats, serious games enable interactive and motivational learning environments. As a result, learning content can be better understood. This contributes to the achievement of learning objectives. The aim of SPIELraum is to develop a generic, digital serious gaming framework that can be used in engineering courses at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. The aim is to create spaces for project-based and experience-based learning in which students can acquire knowledge sustainably and build relevant skills. The framework is intended to simplify the development and use of serious games in teaching, reduce resource requirements and enable teachers to integrate game-based teaching formats into their courses in a flexible and practical way. The project also aims to create a space for game-based teaching at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, in which an active exchange with regard to innovative teaching/learning formats is promoted.
